Ohio Public Library Information Network

The reference department along with the local history and
genealogy collections are located on  Level 1 of the building.

The Library has a magazine index from InfoTrac on CD ROM along with the
Health Reference Center, an index of medical journals. Computers with Internet and
World Wide Web access offer not only the treasures of cyberspace, but also the OPLIN
databases to periodicals, illustrations, government information, etc. In print form the
Library subscribes to Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature, Business Index,
Education Index, General Science Index, Access, etc. A whole range of reference titles,
selected to serve the needs of our patrons are available including the complete set of
Mitchell's Manuals for auto repair dating back to 1977.The Fostoria newspapers
are available on microfilm. These papers have been indexed for articles of local interest.
A
number of other books, pamphlets and records are available for Fostoria as well as Seneca,
Hancock, and Wood Counties. The records of Fostoria's Fountain Cemetery, as compiled
by the Church of Latter Day Saints, is kept at the library. An index of obituaries from the
Fostoria newspapers is also maintained. Census records are kept with special emphasis
on Seneca, Hancock and Wood Counties as well as cemetery records for these three counties.

What's new in the Reference Department?

We have two new Canon 400 Microfilm Scanners.
They are not connected to a computer, therefore,
they are used only as Microfilm Readers and are
capable of reading both Microfiche and Microfilm.

Speaking of Microfilm…

We currently have the latest US Census released (1930) for this area’s surrounding counties available on Microfilm.

Reference Librarian Penny  Justice has put
together a Form Rack with things like area
maps for Seneca, Hancock, and Wood Counties,
as well as Fostoria.  There are also forms for
Personal Health Care  Decisions like
Durable POA and Living Wills.

Penny has legal pamphlets from the Ohio Bar Association available for patrons to take on various subjects such as, Wills, Ohio Law, what to do when dealing with the police and court systems etc.

We also have the latest records on
Microfilm purchased from the Toledo
Catholic Diocese for several churches
in
the area. These records document
things like Baptisms, Marriages,
Confirmations, etc. Some were donated
others were purchased by the library.
